Their responsibilities include presiding over general assemblies and executive council meetings, facilitating discussions and decision-making, and signing official documents while approving major expenses. The president also plays a strategic role by building alliances with other union organizations to strengthen the union’s bargaining power.
The Vice President: Essential Support
The vice president ensures the continuity and smooth functioning of the union by assisting the president in their duties. In the president’s absence, they step in to maintain stability and keep the union’s objectives on track. They play a key role in coordinating union actions, ensuring meetings are well-organized, and making sure that all decisions reflect and protect members’ interests. Their daily commitment helps maintain a strong and active presence in the workplace.
The Communicator: The Link Between Members and the Union
The communicator plays a key role in sharing information and engaging members. They use digital tools and social media to ensure transparent and effective communication. They are responsible for managing and distributing communications from the Grand Lodge, the District, and the local, as well as working with the partner agency overseeing digital platforms. In addition to dissemination, they actively engage with members in the workplace, distribute materials, and discuss key union issues. While part of the executive committee, the communicator is appointed by the president and does not have voting or speaking rights unless requested. Their role is crucial in maintaining a smooth and dynamic flow of communication within the union.
